My greatest achievement has been the campaign management of the £13 million, five year project to restore Castle Drogo in Devon. I was responsible for the following:

  • Creating a strategy and setting a target
  • Establishing and hosting a development board, including trustees and major donors
  • Raising £1.5 million through trusts, major donors and companies

In total, we raised over £7 million towards this remarkable building. As a result, the castle will be watertight for at least the next 100 years.

During my time at the National Trust, I developed a new major gifts income stream to fund ongoing revenue costs (I personally secured six five-figure gifts in 2015, an increase from a single gift in 2013).  As part of this work, I increased total giving for the National Trust in the South West from high value donors (£1,000 +) from £40,000 in 2013 to £192,000 in 2015.

Throughout my career I have regularly secured five and six figure gifts from several major national trusts and foundations including The Henry Smith Charity, The Fidelity UK Foundation, The Wolfson Foundation, Big Lottery Fund and the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts.  During my time at the National Trust, I increased the average gift from local charitable trusts by 60% from 2013 to 2015 and in the first six months of 2016, secured £11.50 for every £1 spent.  I really enjoy getting to know trustees and facilitating relationships between them and the people who deliver work on the ground.
